Where are you from and where does your style/flavour come from?

Chuco and I'm claim Long Beach, California. A homie from the hood named Boogaloo Legs taught me the basics of Hitting in 1984 and I developed my own style a few years later.

Tell us about the difference between your style and the usual boogaloo/poppin style we mostly see today.

Answer

The difference between my style and theirs is that first of all I hit hard and it's hood. My shit is "Abstract Grimey" — ABG — meaning my movements don't follow a certain routine. I come off the head at each moment not knowing what's gonna happen. No rules.

What are your thoughts about the growing funkstyles/dance-scene today?

Answer

I'm starting to see poppers gettin away from typical Boogaloo. When they see us "ABG", they realize there's more to poppin than just boogaloo. Poppin is growin though and I like that.

In Chuco Unleashed you mostly dance to Hip Hop and Electro music. Do you consider your style to be a part of the funkstyles scene, connected to it or as something totally different?

My style is definitely connected. One person said "it's more Hip Hop". All I know for sure is that it's a style people don't see. And I like that.

Tell us the story of your most memorable battle.

Answer

I just battled a guy named Spruce from France in Houston, Texas last week. People say I served him in a big way. I was surprised to see how good he was though. I got crazy!

Is there someone out there that you feel should get more attention?

Fo sho. Elsewhere. He’s sick.

What are your favorite tracks to get down to?

(Classics, new shit, artists... you name it.)

Answer

90's rap and some new like Nas, Kanye, Common, some trip hop, even some Moby — shit that brings out my creativity.

What do you think about crews?

(Is it important to be a part of one? What are the perks/disadvantages? Are you or have you been in one? What should you think about as a crew member or solo act?)

Answer

I think it is important to be part of a crew only when y'all connect and have a good chemistry together. In Airforce we didn't have that and that leads to problems.

People call you "The Prophet". What are your Words of Wisdom to up and coming dancers?

Answer

Don't boogaloo. Learn foundation first and then create your own style and own moves. If you decide to be a clone, remember, you're not original. Don't move to the music, let the music move you.
